Kevin Costner won his big break in Silverado after accepting the news he had been cut from flashback scenes in The Big Chill with grace and understanding.
Director Lawrence Kasdan was impressed with the way the young star took the news he wouldn't appear in the 1983 film - and made himself a promise to cast Costner in another movie.
And he remembered the actor again when he was planning his 1985 western.
Kasdan tells BlogTalkRadio.com, "He was wonderful about it (getting cut) so when it came time for Silverado my brother and I wrote the part for him which had a big place in making him a star.
"It was because I felt bad about cutting him out of The Big Chill and when I told him that I cut him out he received the news so gracefully that I wanted to write this part for him in Silverado."
