Kevin Spacey is crediting his dead mother for helping him get his long-awaited biopic of crooner Bobby Darin on the big screen.

The OSCAR winner feels sure it's no coincidence that he got the backing to make the film, Beyond The Sea, just weeks after his mother - a longtime Darin fan - died early last year (03).

And he insists he could feel his mum's presence on the set every day.

Spacey, who directs and stars as Darin in the biopic, says, "I really felt her presence. No matter what we did, she made it work. Whenever we had to shoot outside, every time, the weather was beautiful.

"Then we went inside, and it poured again. We'd go outside, and it was beautiful again. She was our weather god."
