Kings Of Leon insist their new album, 'Mechanical Bull', is not a comeback.

Drummer Nathan Followill dismissed claims the group's year-long hiatus was a result of problems in the band after they pulled out of a US tour in 2011 - citing singer Caleb Followill's ''exhaustion'' - and he feels the much needed break has improved the quality of their sixth album.

He told Shortlist Magazine: ''[A comeback?] No, I think that everybody just blew the year-long break we took out of proportion. People thought it was worse than we knew it was. We needed a little time off. And the record is a good example of why it was good that we took it.''

Speculation of tensions within the band came after bassist Jared Followill tweeted the band had ''internal sicknesses & problems'' after Caleb walked of stage during a show in Texas in July 2011.

However the frontman insists the decisions to cancel were out of genuine concerns for his health.

Caleb recalled: ''My health was pretty bad, you only go so long with IV bags before every show, steroid shots get your voice to work and all that stuff. We were just run ragged. We were like 'We either take a break now or this is the last tour we ever do.'

''It felt horrible to cancel the shows, but I'd rather cancel one show and comeback 20 times than have that be it.''
