Konnie Huq, the television presenter and former Blue Peter star, has given birth to her first child, a baby-boy. Huq, 36, and her husband, the comedy writer Charlie Brooker, are said to be "chuffed to bits" following the birth of Covey Brooker Huq at 10pm on Friday evening in central London (March 23, 2012), reports the Press Association.
Covey weighed in at 6lb 2oz, according to Huq's agent Jonathan Shalot. In a statement, the presenter said, "A real cutie. We are chuffed to bits, he is absolutely gorgeous!!". Huq and Brooker have managed to keep their relationship intensely private since meeting a couple of years ago. They made headlines after it emerged they had married in Las Vegas in 2010 after dating for just nine months. Many have described the couple as an odd match, especially after Huq landed a job hosting the Xtra Factor on Itv2 - the type of show that Brooker has been known to criticize in his weekly column for The Guardian and on his satirical 'Screen Wipe' show for the Bbc. In recent years Brooker has worked on television drama, gaining plaudits for his Channel 4 show 'Black Mirror' and his five-part horror drama 'Dead Set' for Channel 4.
In 2008, Huq was chosen as one of the 80 carriers of the Olympic torch through London, but became involved in an incident with a protestor, who tried to grab the torch from her as she attempted to pass it onto the next runner.
