The Jackson family patriarch famously refused to let his kids call him by the fatherly term throughout their youth, but La Toya recently decided to confront the 84 year old about it and ask his permission to adopt the casual name.
In a recent episode of her reality show Life With La Toya, which airs on America's Oprah Winfrey Network, the singer told Joe, "I care about you so much you have no clue... I know that all of our life (sic) we've always called you Joseph, but I'd love to call you dad from now on. Is that good with you?"
Remembering the bonding moment during a guest co-hosting stint on U.S. show The Talk on Friday (14Jun13), she recalled: "When I asked that, he said, 'Yes, you can, absolutely', so I was happy about that."
And Michael Jackson's sister used the early Father's Day (16Jun13) special to defend her dad's reputation as a cold, strict father.
She said, "My dad was a disciplinarian with all of us, but he taught us so much and that's what a lot of people don't understand. We wouldn't be in this business if it wasn't for my father... so you have to give him that respect and I am just so happy that he stuck with my brothers' dream (to become pop stars); this is what they wanted to do. He cultivated it."
