Pop superstar Lady GaGa broke immigration laws in Russia by performing for money while in the country on a tourist visa, according to a leading politician.
The American singer performed in Saint Petersburg last year (12) as part of her world tour, and she was later accused of illegally promoting gay rights while on stage.
A senior local politician previously demanded a probe into alleged immigration breaches by another U.S. superstar, Madonna, and now he is asking Russian authorities to also look into Gaga's paperwork.
Vitaly Milonov, a member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and a key supporter of the city's gay propaganda ban, has filed a request with the Prosecutor General's office to investigate suspicions the two pop stars had only been issued standard visas which did not allow them to earn money while in the country.
A spokesman for the Prosecutor General's office has appeared to confirm the immigration breach, saying, "The visas issued were of the basic cultural exchange sort, which does not grant their bearers the right to engage in any commercial activity."
The cases could now be forwarded to the Foreign Ministry and the Federal Migration Service for further investigation.
