The Bad Romance hitmaker sold tickets to the Soul Cycle class, which began at $1,000 (£625), to raise money for her foundation, which helps empower youngsters and end bullying.

Gaga, who wore a henna-style tattoo design around her face, was joined by her mother Cynthia Germanotta and actress Sophia Bush to cycle alongside other charity riders.

In a post on Instagram.com, the singer writes, "Soulcycle ride for The Born This Way foundation was a hit today in Chicago! Thank u (you) to everyone who participated in raising money and awareness for a cause so close to my heart. Let's work toward a kinder and braver world: where every kid wakes up knowing their voice matters, that they are heard, and that there are many resources available to help them with the emotional and social challenges they face."

Bush adds, "We rode like mad, laughed a lot, cried a little, and even jumped off the bikes to have a mid-class a dance party (sic). What an epic night. Doing good for the world is the most fun and rewarding thing you can do with your time, and tonight we proved it."
