Rabble-rousing pop diva Lady GaGa looks as though she may be forced to cancel her Indonesia concert in the island-nation's capital of Jakarta after police refused her a permit to perform in reaction to protests by Islamic extremists opposed to the singer and her outspoken antics.
The notorious singer, whose hits include 'Born This Way' and Pokerface,' is due to play in the country's capital on June 3 as part of her Born This Way Ball tour. So far the Indonesian length of her tour has sold 52,000 tickets making it the biggest show on the Asian leg of her world tour that has since seen her perform in Taipei, Pasay, Bangkok and Singapore. He show in the South Korea capital of Seoul also saw similar protests from pressure groups opposed to the performer's provocative image. The promoter for Gaga, Michael Rusli, has given a statement in which he details that he had hoped police would still grant the megastar permission to perform, despite the protests, but another spokesman, Boy Rafli Amar, has since confirmed that the application has been rejected and Gaga will not be able to play in the Asian city.
An Indonesian protester who goes by the name of Munarman, told reporters for South East Asian Real Time that: "Lady Gaga insults all religions. Even Christians in Korea opposed her. She is promoting the worship of Satan." Munarman is a spokesman for ultra-conservative Islamic Defenders Front, known for its staunch opposition to vice and liberalism in the country.
