Lady GaGa attended a special ceremony in Taiwan on Sunday (03Jul11) after officials named the day in her honour.
The pop superstar was handed the key to the city of Taichung on what was declared Lady Gaga Day in honour of her highly-anticipated performance there that night.
Gaga was treated to a special show by local children at the ceremony and given gifts including a portrait of herself by a local artist.
She told the audience, "These gifts are so overwhelmingly thoughtful and generous. I will cherish them forever and always remember today."
The Poker Face star went on to perform a free concert for an estimated 40,000 fans at a park amphitheatre in Taichung City.
Approximately 6,000 were able to squeeze into the venue, while thousands more watched on big screens outside, according to Focus Taiwan.
In a press conference on Monday in Taipei, Gaga admitted she was stunned by the massive turnout, telling reporters, "I couldn't believe so many people came. They told me 9,000 would be there. I guess it was something like 40,000 people. So thank you, Taiwan. Thank you. I often tell my fans and people all over the world when I do interviews that if you haven't seen me live, you don't really know anything about me then. So I feel finally that Taiwan knows me very intimately now."
She also promised to return to the country as part of a full Asian tour, adding, "I will tour all over Asia. I promise... I will be back and you will see the full show."
