Lamb Of God - Lamb Of God Launch Legal Fund For Incarcerated Star
Rockers Lamb of God have launched a fundraising drive to pay for frontman Randy Blythe's legal bills as he fights a manslaughter charge in the Czech Republic.
The singer was detained in Prague last week (28Jun12) amid accusations he pushed a fan off stage at a concert in the city in May 2010. The man reportedly died of a brain haemorrhage two weeks later.
Blythe posted $197,500 (£126,000) bail and is currently waiting for officials to rubber-stamp his release, and now his bandmates have set up an online fundraising page to help him cover his legal fees.
A post on the band's Facebook.com page reads, "As many of you know, Randy is being held in Czech jail for a crime we believe he did not commit. We are still learning about the legal system there and the situation is fluid.
"We have retained local legal counsel, have support from the US Embassy and we are flying over additional lawyers to try and assure (sic) that Randy has the best representation possible. As many of you have pointed out, the simple fact is that the legal fees are adding up very quickly.
"While we appreciate the outpouring of support, we are not interested in trying to profit or gather press or sympathy from this event. We have assembled this page to make it possible for people that feel so inclined to donate to the expenses incurred in defending this case.
"One hundred percent (sic) of the money raised will go to the legal fees and any remaining balance will be given to a charity of Randy's choice upon his release."
Rocker Slash has added his support to the campaign, writing in a post on his Twitter.com page, "Please donate to the Randy Blythe legal fund. He is still in custody & the legal fees are mounting."
