Lana Del Rey was mocked by Bridesmaids actress and comedienne Kristen Wiig on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. Wiig poked fun at the New Yorker following her heavily criticized performance on the same show two weeks ago.
During the regular Weekend Update skit, Kristen donned a white dress similar to the one Lana wore during her performance while also wearing a gingery wig. The actress actually directed most of her biting satire at the level of abuse Del Rey received following the performance, during which she appeared distant and aloof. The comedienne joked, "Based on the public's response I must have clubbed a baby seal while singing the Taliban national anthem". She later turned things up a little, saying, "People thought I was stiff, distant and weird". When Seth Meyers asked, "Why is that"? Kristen bluntly replied, "Because I'm stiff, distant and weird". During her actual performance, the live studio audience appeared to be baffled by Lana's first song, though host Daniel Radcliffe still attempted to drum up some support for her second. Amongst the celebrities slamming the performance on Twitter was singer Juliette Lewis, who said, "Wow watching this 'singer' on Snl is like watching a 12-year-old in their bedroom when they're pretending to sing and perform". Actress Eliza Dushku was simply confused, saying, "Who.....is.....this wack-a-doodle chick performing on #Snl..? Whaaaa?".
Nevertheless, Lana Del Rey's debut album 'Born To Die' has gone straight in at No.1 on the weekend's UK Albums chart, selling 117,000 copies.
