Larry Hagman's bejewelled silver and gold belt buckle from 'Dallas' is being auctioned off.

The late actor - who passed away in November after complications from throat cancer - wore the accessory while playing villainous oilman J.R. Ewing on the hit TV series, which originally aired between 1978 and 1991 and was revised in 2012.

The large buckle, encrusted with rubies framing the initials 'J.R.', is expected to fetch between $3,000 and $5,000 when it goes under the hammer at Los Angeles auction house Bonhams on May 5.

Other personal items belonging to Larry which are to be auctioned off include his custom-made leather director's chair, expected to sell between $2,500 and $3,000, and dozens of his cowboy hats.

Larry was given a fond farewell from his co-stars in a tear-jerking episode last month titled 'J.R.'s Masterpiece', which producer Mike Robin created to ''honour'' the 81-year-old actor.

Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy - who play J.R.'s long-suffering wife Sue Ellen and brother Bobby - were overwhelmed with emotion while shooting the goodbye scenes.

Mike said: ''[The cast] wanted to do right by their friend in terms of honouring him and honouring his character and so they worked so hard and they went to the emotional depths that [viewers will see].

''I mean that was an interesting thing. So much of that was real. After certain scenes, like when Linda [filmed her part at the] funeral ... she says to me, 'That was so hard.' But it was very real.

''After shooting Patrick's moment,] I said, 'I think we did well,' and he said, 'Yeah, I think he'd be happy.' Everybody that was involved in it, that was what we were trying to do, trying to feel that we did right by our friend Larry Hagman.''
