Len Lesser, the American actor best known for playing 'Uncle Leo' on Seinfeld, has died, aged 88.
LEN LESSER, the American actor who played the cantankerous yet good-natured 'Uncle Leo' on the hit sitcom SEINFELD, has passed away aged 88, reports the New York Daily News.Lesser died yesterday morning (16th February 2011) in Burbank, California, from cancer-related pneumonia. The actor was admitted to a rehabilitation centre near his home several weeks ago and his family said he passed away in his sleep. His daughter, MICHELE LESSER, paid tribute to her father's career, saying, "Heaven got a great comedian and actor today. The outpouring of sympathy we've already received has been amazing and is so greatly appreciated. Thank you to all the people who helped make my father's last journey special and surrounded with love". The actor appeared in just 15 episodes of Seinfeld, but his one-liners made him one of the show's best loved characters. He also had a recurring role on 'Everybody Loves Raymond' as Garvin, a friend of Raymond's father. Lesser, who served in the army during World War II, worked alongside some of film's greatest actors throughout his career, including Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Dustin Hoffman.
His last appearance on screen was in a 2009 episode of the ABC's 'Castle'. Lesser is survived by two children, Michele and David, and three grandchildren.
