Actress Lena Dunham has backed a campaign against a property development in her native New York City amid fears a luxury apartment building will spoil a much-loved view.

Developers are constructing a new building called the Pierhouse condominium in Brooklyn, and many residents fear the tower will block the famous view of Manhattan.

The project was given the green-light after the developers promised to keep the building at a reasonable height, but locals fear the construction has already exceeded it.

Girls star Dunham, who was born and raised in New York, has now backed calls to save the view, posting a link to an article about the development on her Twitter.com page with the caption, "Save the view now!"

Dunham's message appears to reference a protest group called Save the View Now, which has been campaigning against the project and launched a petition which had gained more than 4,000 signatures as Wenn went to press.
