Nicholson Pulled Gun On Dicaprio In Name Of Realism
Leonardo Dicaprio was terrified of Jack Nicholson on the set of new movie THE DEPARTED, especially when the veteran actor pulled a gun on him unexpectedly. The pair were shooting a scene in the Martin Scorsese movie when Nicholson's improvising shocked DiCaprio, even though he had an inkling of what was to come. DiCaprio says, "He is going to throw curveballs at you and you have to be completely prepared for anything. There was tons of improvisation with him. It makes you terrified as an actor and it ups the stakes. "(One day) he was muttering to himself and the prop guy tipped me off that he had a fire extinguisher, a bottle of whisky, some matches and a handgun somewhere. "So I sat down at the table not knowing what to expect, and he set the table on fire after pouring whisky all over the place and stuck a gun in my face. "It changed the whole dynamic of the scene, and that's what he does - he makes you so much better and he makes you react as an actor, and you take more chances because your character is reacting to this homicidal maniac."
