The former Oasis star, who is based in the U.K., has been fighting New York journalist Liza Ghorbani over child support cash ever since little Gemma was born. Their legal wrangle was scheduled to go to trial in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday (26Mar15), but Gallagher, who has been fined by the judge on several occasions for missing hearings, finally reached an agreement with his ex-lover late on Wednesday (25Mar15).

The details of the settlement have been kept confidential, but the New York Post reports it is in excess of the $5,000 (£3,125) per month Ghorbani, 41, had previously been receiving under a temporary court order.

She had complained the amount was not enough, and demanded a payment of $3 million (£1.88 million).

Justice Laura Drager signed off on the new support deal on Thursday morning, branding the agreement "very fair and appropriate".

Gallagher was not in court for the brief hearing and his attorney, Raoul Felder, declined to comment on the case, but a smiling Ghorbani told the press, "I'm just really relieved this ordeal is over for the sake of my daughter."

The writer had penned a glowing article about Gallagher for the New York Times in 2010 before embarking on an affair with the married star.

His union with British singer Nicole Appleton crumbled after it was revealed he had fathered a lovechild with Ghorbani. The estranged couple is currently in the midst of a divorce.
