Liam Neeson's new movie 'Unknown' has gone straight to the top of the US box office chart.
LIAM NEESON's highly anticipated new thriller 'Unknown' took $21.8 million during its opening weekend, sending it to the top of the US box-office, reports BBC News.'Unknown' follows the story of a botanist who comes out of a coma to find that another man has taken his identity. Neeson's acclaimed performance in 2009's 'Taken' may have been enough to persuade audiences to see the Irish star's new film, which explores similar themes. Warner Bros head of distribution DAN FELLMAN said that the actor was "the new man" when it came to action heroes, adding, "He's stepped up to the plate. Put him in the right role and he's every man's action star". Alex Pettyfer's new movie 'I Am Number Four', was expected to take the top spot but eventually had to settle for second place, taking around $19.5 million. Elsewhere, the Disney movie 'Gnomeo and Juliet' took $19.4 million and Martin Lawrence's comedy 'Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" opened with $17 million. The OSCAR tipped 'Kings Speech' fell to number six in the chart, but topped the $100m takings mark.
Next up for LIAM NEESON is a small role in the forthcoming comedy 'The Hangover Part II', before he stars in the 2012 drama movie 'Battleship', alongside Brooklyn Decker and ALEXANDER SKARSGARD.
