The LINDSAY VONN DIVORCE has shocked many skiing fans as LINDSAY VONN announced that she is splitting up from her ski husband THOMAS VONN. The divorce comes after four years of marriage, but Lindsey stated that she will be retaining her surname.
The Olympic gold medallist has announced that the couple have started the divorce proceedings and that Thomas will no longer be her chief advisor. Talking to Associated Press, Lindsey stated: 'This is an extremely difficult time in my personal life and I hope the media and my fans can respect my need for privacy on this matter.' She further elaborated that she will continue to be coached under the US team and that she is looking forward to finishing the season. Lindsey had started a relationship with Thomas Vonn, the former Olympic skier who is nine years older than her, leading to them getting married in September 2007. Thomas began to behave as a quasi-agent, often providing tips on courses and coordinating interviews for Lindsey.
Lindsey Vonn caught international attention when she won a gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics in the downhill. She has become a huge global superstar after achieving three overall World Cup titles and 42 World Cup wins. She will be seen next on the slopes on Tuesday (6 Dec 2011) when she trains for a downhill run in Lake Louise, Alberta, the site of her next competition.
