A man who attempted to rob the home of LL Cool J - but ended up on the receiving end of a beating - is facing life in prison. Seems harsh? Well, Jonathan A. Kirby, 56, has been charged with the more severe 1st degree burglary with a person present, reports Tmz.com.
On top of that, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has charged Mr Kirby as a third strike offender - if convicted, he faces 38 years to life in prison (Mass murderer Anders Breivik was sentenced to 21 years today for the killing of 77 people). According to CNN, he was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Dallas, Texas, in 1988 and has been charged with auto theft, first degree burglary and petty theft since. The repeat offender broke into LL Cool J's mansion in Sherman Oaks, California, this week, triggering the alarm system and waking the rapper from his slumber. The Ncis Los Angeles star - a considerable physical presence - went downstairs to investigate and found Mr Kirby wandering around his house. He proceeded to 'lay the smack-down' on the criminal, breaking his jaw and nose in the process before detaining him while police arrived.
Prosecutors have asked the judge to set Kirby's bail at a rather ridiculous $1.1 million. A spokesman for the rapper-turned-actor says he and his family are safe and well. A statement read, "As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter".
