Riot police were called to an Australian music festival over the weekend (26-27Nov11) after violence broke out at the event.
The Stereosonic festival, which features headliners LMFAO, Empire of the Sun and dance DJ Armin Van Buuren, descended into chaos at Sydney's Olympic Park on Saturday (26Nov11) as crowds allegedly hurled bottles at police.
A riot squad was deployed and more than 67 people were arrested for various offences.
Sydney Detective Superintendent Peter Lennon tells the Aap, "Police were forced to break up a number of violent scuffles. The fact that some in the crowd hurled bottles at those officers is disgraceful."
A spokeswoman for the festival insists security will be tight at the other legs of the event in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane. She says, "The others won't be as big as Sydney. Security is already beefed up everywhere but there are going to be ratbags (offenders) in certain cities.
"You only hear the negative things about these events, never the positive aspects. There are going to be small issues at any event that has lots of people. The promoters take it very seriously and they employ the best security companies in each city."
