Luther Vandross' remains confident her singer son will recover from a stroke which has left him unconscious and in critical condition for close to a month.

The singer, 52, suffered a stroke on 16 April (03) at his Manhattan, New York, home and has since been hospitalised at WEILL-CORNELL MEDICAL COLLEGE, where he had a tracheotomy to help him breathe.

The star's mum MARY VANDROSS says, "He has to recover, he's all I have left, he's my last surviving child."

Mrs Vandross says she visits her son every two or three days, holds his hand, prays for him and plays his favourite music.

She adds, "We play all his favourites - Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, and we play his music, too.

"Right after the stroke, he was in grave danger; it was very touch and go. But I feel that it is just a matter of time before he improves and, to me, his appearance gets better daily. It's a very slow process. But I believe there is nothing too hard for God."
