LATEST: Rock greats Lynyrd Skynyrd have been forced to cancel a further eight US shows this month (AUG05) because frontman JOHNNY Van Zant's vocal chords are still painfully inflamed.

The Sweet Home Alabama rocker was struck by a severe bacterial infection known as strep throat in June (05) and has been advised to rest his voice.

The hitmakers ditched their scheduled appearance at June's Country Music Association Festival in Nashville, Tennessee, where Van Zant's country group VAN ZANT were also expected to perform, but the singer had hoped to be fully recovered by now.
