Pop superstar Madonna's plans to complete the adoption process for baby David Banda have suffered a setback - because Malawian child welfare authorities can't afford the flight to the U.K. A welfare officer from the 23-month-old's native country was expected to travel to London in May (07) to determine whether Banda can be officially adopted by the Music hitmaker and her husband Guy Ritchie, who brought him back to the U.K. from a Malawian orphanage last October (06). But Penston Kilembe, the director of Malawi's child welfare services, admits the authorities have faced financial difficulties which have forced them to postpone their official visit until later this year (07). He says, "We have been unable to travel because of logistical problems. You know it requires some resources for me to travel." However, Kilembe hinted the Hollywood couple have already met all of their adoption requirements. He adds, "What we expect (to see from the visit) is that the child must be provided all the necessities of basic needs for him to grow up." Kilembe hopes to make the trip to the U.K. by the end of this month (Aug07).
