McLaren Was 'Public Enemy No 1'
Punk svengali Malcolm McLaren was considered such a controversial figure during the late 1970s, his phone was bugged by British intelligence agency MI6.
McLaren moved to Paris, France, in 1979 after a legal battle with his proteges the Sex Pistols over royalties left his credibility damaged in his homeland.
He says, "There was a wave of paranoia and recrimination on the King's Road (London). I was a public enemy.
"My phone was tapped by M16. Every single record company door was permanently shut.
"It was really, really difficult and Paris seemed a nice place to be."
