OSCAR-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden has turned her back on life in Hollywood in favour of New York neighbourhood Harlem.

The POLLOCK star and her husband THADDAEUS decided against the star-studded hills of Tinseltown in favour of the Big Apple's historical district, because she wanted a place to grow old gracefully.

She says, "The truth is, I had a hard time feeling like I could grow old and be graceful in Hollywood. I love New York. I think it's the most fabulous city in the world.

"I moved back here and we were looking for apartments and paying insane rents elsewhere. And we went up to Harlem and it's beautiful, beautiful, beautiful - gorgeous buildings. It's a great neighbourhood. It's family, family, family."
