Mariah Carey made a surprise performance at a New York City jazz club yesterday, much to the delight of those in the audience.
The R&B superstar was in town for the special gig to kick off the new Nfl sesson, where she performed her new track, Triumphant. Not content with opening one of the biggest events in the American sporting calendar, Carey hit the town after to find somewhere else to perform; another audience to impress. She ended up at Manhattan's infamous Cafe Carlyle and gave special renditions of her favourite jazz songs while sharing a bench with the club's pianist, who would have done well to keep his composure in the presence of such a global star.
The singer took to the social networking site Twitter to share a photo of herself with a bunch of musicians, including bassist Randy Jackson - Carey's new American Idol colleague. She tweeted, "During an impromptu visit to the Carlyle, singing jazz standards I've loved since childhood." Her husband Nick Cannon and long-time collaborator Jermaine Dupri were also in the audience, enjoying the show. Carey surprised audiences worldwide with her Nfl performance by walking on stage with her pet dog. She used one arm to carry her Jack Russell terrier, and the other to belt out the tunes.
