Mariah Carey stood by her friend and collaborator Da Brat when the rapper was sentenced to three years behind bars and even visited the incarcerated star in prison.
The pop superstar worked with Da Brat on a number of records, including Heartbreaker and Always Be My Baby, and even starred alongside her in 2001 movie Glitter.
Da Brat - real name Shawntae Harris - was jailed in 2008 for an attack on a waitress the previous year (07), and admits she was surprised when her pal turned up at the prison for a visit with her husband Nick Cannon.
The hip-hop star also reveals the singer confided in her about her tragic miscarriage and the good news about her pregnancy.
Da Brat tells Vibe magazine, "Oh man! I talk to Mariah often and her and Nick came to see me. I knew about the miscarriage and I know she's having the twins. And I know she only wanted to do it one time. They are like the cutest couple, they both are eternally 12. I swear! They're big kids... Mariah and Nick surprised me! I saw someone from their crew and said 'Oh s**t!' I would've never thought that she would've came (to visit), she's so girlie! But that's what real friends do."
Da Brat was released from jail on Monday (28Feb11).
