Marilyn Manson was so hurt by criticism following the Columbine High School tragedy, he considered giving up showbusiness for good.

The rocker was associated with the 1999 shooting terror at the Colorado school because the crazed teenagers - who murdered 12 students, a teacher and themselves in the massacre - were wearing Manson T-shirts.

Conservatives then turned on Manson and his music for inciting hatred in America's youth.

He says, "I would be at a restaurant and I would get dirty looks from normal people - people who weren't even right wing - and it was so defeating.

"It got to the point where I wasn't even sure if I wanted to be me anymore. I didn't know if it was worth it. I didn't know if it balanced out."
