Amy Winehouse's dad Mitch Winehouse says she wrote perhaps her most famous song 'Rehab' in just three hours, as his memoirs were serialized on popular music website Rolling Stone. The forthcoming memoir 'Amy, My Daughter' is coming out soon, with Winehouse expected to reveal the very most intimate of details about his relationship with a daughter he remained extremely close to throughout all of her problems.
Recounting a conversation she'd had with producer Mark Ronson, Mitch wrote "She told [Ronson] about the time at my house after she'd been in hospital when everyone had been going on at her about her drinking". He revealed that the immortal line that would signify 'Rehab' as a huge hit was actually uttered without a second's thought, as she told the producer, "'You know they tried to make me go to rehab, and I told them, no, no, no".
Spotting the line, Ronson reportedly replied "That's quite gimmicky" . "It sounds hooky. You should go back to the studio and we should turn that into a song." Continuing, Winehouse senior wrote that Ronson wanted to give the song a "Sixties girl-group sound". He continued "Amy was unaccustomed to this style - most of the songs she was writing were based around jazz chords - but it worked and that day she wrote 'Rehab' in just three hours."
