Actor Mark Ruffalo is calling on Broadway bosses to stage a new production of Shakespeare play Romeo And Juliet for him to star in - before he's "too old" for the leading role.
The Shutter Island star wowed New York critics when he appeared in Clifford Odet's Awake and Sing! in 2006, a drama that earned him a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor.
Ruffalo, 42, admits he is tempted to take a temporary hiatus from Hollywood to return to the Broadway stage, especially if it's a "classic" play like Shakespeare.
He tells the New York Daily News, "If I could afford to take two or three years and just be on the stage that would be amazing. The theatre is my real house. It's where I started. It's kind of where I live as an actor.
"I love the classics. It's what I think I do best. I'd love to play Jamie in Long Day's Journey Into Night. I'd love to be Hamlet, or if I wasn't too old, Romeo."
However, Ruffalo may have more luck convincing theatre bosses to put on a new production of Romeo and Juliet instead of Hamlet - British actor Jude Law recently wrapped his Broadway run as the tragic Danish prince, which won him glowing reviews.
