Singer Adam Levine has told how the Maroon 5 smash Moves Like Jagger was almost shelved as he was terrified to release it.
The group teamed up with Levine's The Voice co-star Christina Aguilera to record the pop song, which went on to become Maroon 5's biggest hit to date.
But the frontman, who composed the track with songwriters Benjamin Levin, Ammar Malik and Shellback, admits he was initially reluctant to put out the Mick Jagger tribute.
He tells Rolling Stone, "Sometimes a co-writer will write something that's almost better than what you would do, and it's like, 'S**t!'... Jagger was almost a mistake, I was scared to release it - but also turned on by that fear.
"It was the fresh injection we needed. We've been together a long time - it's like a marriage, where we needed to get kinky in the bedroom."
The song marked Maroon 5's first collaboration with outside songwriters, and guitarist James Valentine reveals the experience has reinvigorated their music.
He adds, "It actually has spiced up our marriage. I love you guys more now... Up to now, we've been insulated from the pop-industrial complex. We've been like, 'F**k you, we're a band.' But now, stepping into this new world of songwriters and producers, it feels fun."
