Ashley Olsen has joined the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

The fashion star has been elected alongside new board members Deborah Lloyd, president and chief creative officer of Kate Spade NY, and renowned designer Prabal Gurung.

The invitation-only membership consists of 400 American designers who are either based in the US or working abroad. WWD is reporting that the decision to appoint the trio was made last month.

However, there was no mention of the 27-year-old star's twin sister Mary-Kate Olsen, who is one half of the design duo's fashion labels, The Row and Elizabeth & James.

The appointment comes as no surprise since the former child stars scooped the top prize for Womenswear Designer of the Year for The Row at the CFDA Awards last year.

They also ranked highly on Forbes magazine' 30 most influential fashion moguls under 30 annual list of taste-makers in the world of fashion and art last December.

Ashley, Deborah and Prabal are replacing exiting CFDA board members Yeohlee Teng, Kenneth Cole and Isabel Toledo, who are set to join the special Emeritus Board, reserved for designers who give up their CFDA responsibilities but retain their title.
