Matt Lauer is reportedly planning to leave NBC when his contract expires in December 2012, according to the Vancouver Sun. Matt Lauer's co-anchor Meredith Vieira is also rumoured to be leaving her post on the award winning 'Today Show'.
53-year-old Lauer is looking to leave Nbc next year, but Vieira's contract could free her in September of this year. Lauer's former co-anchor Katie Couric is also said to be preparing her exit from CBS Evening News later this year and speculation that the pair could reunite for a new project is beginning to intensify. Although Lauer and Vieira are yet to comment on the situation, The 'Today Show' released a statement that read, "There seems to be an awful lot of speculation around news anchors these days, and it's not our practice to comment on any of it. Matt Lauer has a long term contract with Nbc News and Today". Before joining Nbc's 'Today Show' in 1997, Lauer was previously a news anchor in New York and a local talk show host in Boston, Philadelphia, Providence and Richmond. He was also host of 'Evening Magazine' and worked for Espn in the 1980's.
Matt Lauer hit the headlines in November 2010 after he interviewed Kanye West on the 'Today Show'. The rapper became agitated and lost his temper after producers of the show screened video clips of his controversial outburst at the Vma awards.
