Tom Meighan has hit out at the Spice Girls saying their London 2012 performance was ''horrifying''.

The Kasabian frontman slammed the '2 Become 1' hitmakers - Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton, Mel B and Mel C - for their ''horrible'' set at the closing ceremony last year, and doesn't believe they did the venue, the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, east London, ''justice''.

He said: ''We were on tour during the Olympics but I saw some bits on telly. There were some horrifying bits, like The Spice Girls. That really didn't do the place justice.

''That was the most horrifying bit. It was just horrible.

Kasabian - made up of Serge Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews and Jay Mehler - will perform at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, which houses the Olympic Stadium, when they headline Hard Rock Calling this summer, and Tom says it will be ''an honour'' to play at the spectacle.

He added to The Sun newspaper: ''We'll be the first band to play the park, so it's great.

''It's our only headline gig this year in England so it's wonderful.

''Some amazing bands have played Hard Rock Calling. It will be cool to be in the Olympic Park.

''We're the youngest act to headline the festival.

''The Killers have got about 10 years on us so it's an honour.''

Tickets will go on sale on Friday (08.03.13) at www.hardrockcallling.co.uk
