Ashlee Simpson-Wentz is giving up music for the sake of her son.

The singer-and-actress - who was recently axed from US show 'Melrose Place' - has decided not to pursue her singing career as it would mean spending too much time away from 11-month-old Bronx.

A source close to Ashlee - who is married to Fall Out Boy rocker Pete Wentz - said: "She's reading scripts. Acting is her focus now. If she had an album, she'd have to tour and be away from Bronx. She wants consistency."

Although she is keen on an acting career, Ashlee was left disappointed when she was axed from 'Melrose Place' after being in it for just six months.

The show's executive producer Todd Slavkin said: "It was the original plan going into the development of the show. We felt that once the murder mystery, which involved their characters, was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift … and Ashlee's character would move on."

But her sister Jessica Simpson is furious at the producers' decision and feel they were just using Ashlee to generate publicity.

Jessica wrote on her Twitter page: "CW catching up on MP.who writes this crap?i have had bad scripts to work with, but this?thank God my sister is amazing and got you some press (sic)."
