American Pie is heading the list of classic comedy movies gearing up for another instalment. American Reunion is scheduled for release on Friday (April 6, 2012) and features the bulk of the cast members from the original teen high school comedy. Actor Seann William Scott took the opportunity to announce his engagement at the movie's recent premiere, which has received mixed reviews from American film critics.

American Reunion has received a respectable score of 63 per cent on the Rotten Tomatoes site, so far, with ROBER EBERT having commented that "American Reunion" has a sense of deja vu, but it still delivers a lot of nice laughs." Writing for Variety, though, Justin Chang was less forgiving, arguing that "While it's poignant seeing the whole gang again, the tired gross-out antics and limp romantic reprisals keep this hapless if heartfelt effort from qualifying as a decent comedy, let alone a generational classic." It would appear that the movie doesn't do much to update the college humor on which it so heavily reliant the first time round, though and it remains to be seen whether the movie can attract a new audience, or continue to amuse its older fans.

For the movie's actors and actresses, some have fared better than others. Alyson Hannigan (best known for her line "this one time. at band camp") went on to feature in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and, more recently, How I Met Your Mother. Mena Suvari has perhaps the most credible post-Pie career, having starred in the Oscar winning American Beauty.
