Meredith Vieira is expected to leave NBC's 'Today' show when her contract comes to and end this year.

The news anchor, who has previously presented ABC's 'The View' and 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire', is reportedly reconsidering staying on the breakfast TV programme because of her husband's poor health.

Her current year-long $11 million contract will end in September and bosses hope they will be able to persuade her to sign a new one.

A source told TV Guide: "NBC is doing everything they can to convince her to stay."

If Meredith - whose producer husband Richard Cohen has multiple sclerosis and cancer - does walk, it is believed news presenter Ann Curry will replace her.

The news comes soon after it was revealed that her colleague Katie Couric is leaving the show and is in talks to have her own chat show.

In an official statement NBC said: "The 'Today' show anchors are currently under contract and firmly in place."
