Michael Douglas, the Hollywood legend who was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, is in pain but continues to fight, according to his film director friend Oliver Stone. The three-time Oscar winning filmmaker told the UK's Sun newspaper that Douglas has impressed him with his spirit and determination, saying, "He is fighting hard. It is recoverable, but you never know".
Stone recently directed 66-year-old Douglas in his new movie 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps', a sequel to the 1987 classic that spawned the actor's famous portrayal of investor 'Gordon Gekko'. He praised his lead actor's decision to attend the recent New York premiere of the movie despite his course of chemotherapy, saying, "It was courageous, but at the same time I think it lifted his spirits. I don't think it is easy, he can't go out, people see him. It is also very painful and uncertain".
Douglas was eventually told by doctors in August that he had cancer after weeks of complaining about neck and ear pains, and 64-year-old Stone criticised the delay in diagnosis, telling the Sun, "That's what sucks. Nobody knew a damn thing until August." 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' which also stars Shia LaBeouf, topped the US box-office in its opening weekend, taking more than $35 million.
