Michael Jackson's father will have to wait until May (10) to learn whether he can pursue a petition for a monthly allowance from his late son's estate.
Joe Jackson filed a claim for a monthly stipend of over $15,000 (£9,375) in November (09), claiming he relied on the King of Pop's help to survive as he had little income of his own.
In legal papers obtained by TMZ.com, Joe asked for the cash to cover "maintenance expenses" and to "support his children or grandchildren".
However, the Jackson family patriarch's bid was met with hostility from the Thriller star's estate - administrators John Branca and John MCClain filed documents opposing the claim last week (ends22Jan10).
The case was heard in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday (28Jan10), when Judge Mitchell Beckloff set a preliminary hearing for 26 May (10).
