Michael Le Vell , the Coronation Street actor who is accused of a sexual abusing a schoolgirl, has been re-brailed until January, according to the Press Association. The 46-year-old, who plays Kevin Webster in the long running soap, was first arrested at his home in Hale, Greater Manchester, in September 2011.
Le Vell said he "strenuously" denied the allegations, but his hope of quickly proving his innocence appears unlikely with the actor due back in court next year while investigations continue. Greater Manchester Police said his arrest followed a report of a historical offence made to them, with a spokesman confirming, "A 46-year-old man arrested on suspicion of committing a historic sexual offence has been rebailed until the second week of January as police continue their investigations". Last month, the actor who has two children with actress Janette Beverly vowed to clear his name, issuing a statement saying, "I strenuously deny these allegations and will do everything in my power to prove my innocence". Le Vell first joined the much-loved soap in 1983 and quickly established himself as a popular cast-member, playing mechanic Kevin whose stormy relationship with Sally was often the subject of major storylines.
More recently, the actor was part of a storyline involving his affair with Molly Dobbs - the couple's relationship was finally exposed during the 50th anniversary episode, during which Molly was killed.
