British pop singer-turned-Tv star Michelle Heaton is considering undergoing drastic surgery after medics told her she is likely to contract breast cancer.
The former Liberty X star has been informed she has the Brca2 gene, meaning she is up to 80 per cent more likely to fall victim to the potentially deadly disease.
She is now faced with a heartbreaking decision - whether to undergo a double mastectomy and have her ovaries removed as a pre-emptive strike against the illness.
Heaton tells British magazine OK!, "I found out that I have the Brca2 cancer gene, which means I have an 80 per cent chance of getting ovarian cancer or breast cancer - and that's on top of everybody else's one in three chance...
"I've got to have an operation and we've got some decisions to make - whether I should have a double mastectomy and if I should have my ovaries removed to reduce the risks. We're going to have some counselling sessions before we make our minds up. I've got my first mammogram soon."
It's not the only health woe the star has suffered recently - she spent Sunday night (12Aug12) in hospital after complications from long-standing issues with an irregular heartbeat.
