Picture: Shrek at the Australian premiere of Shrek III at the State Theatre Sydney, Australia - 22.05.07.
SHREK star Mike Myers ditched the animated character's Canadian accent for a Scottish voice midway through the original movie - forcing film-maker STEVEN SPIELBERG to pay out an extra $900,000 (GBP500,000).
The comic actor admits his green ogre alter-ego didn't suit a Canadian accent because it failed to emphasise his working class roots, so he ditched the tone and asked producers, including Spielberg, if he could re-record the entire film.
He says, "I thought Shrek should sound Scottish, as it sounds working class, and I think ogres are working class. So I asked to re-do the whole recording with the Scottish accent.
"It was going to cost GBP500,000 to re-record with the Scottish accent. But the producers did it anyway, and I was really happy with it."
