One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Movie Review

Nicholson went nuts in The Shining, but he did the time in Cuckoo's Nest as a rough-and-tumble felon looking to escape hard prison by spending a little quality time in a psychiatric institution. Little does he realize his phony illness is about to get him into all kinds of trouble. Louise Fletcher's Nurse Ratched, however, is the character who has since entered into the American lexicon, as have a host of other characters and scenes (most memorably: Nicholson's narration of a World Series game that's not on TV). Faithfully adapted from Ken Kesey's stirring novel.

Along with It Happened One Night and The Silence of the Lambs, these are the only three films to win all four major Oscars (actor, actress, director, picture). It's still the only film to deserve it.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest Review Wksh The movie produced by Michael Douglas & directed by Milo’s Forman featured Jack Nicholson a spectacular actor as the lead actor named (Mcmurphy). Mcmurphy played a very comic and dramatic role with so much enthusiasm for life and the freedom to live itWhich he shared freely with the always-locked up patient’s in the mental hospital, he can be described in this movie as a man who liked to have his way compulsively often gambling his way through everything and anything he does, loved power but generousenough to carry others along. Nurse (Ratched) played by Louise Fletcher with such Domineering and autocratic nature, seemed to have full control over her territory as thehead nurse in charge of all patients in the facility. Nurse Ratched's hunger for absolutecontrol made it practically impossible for her to see the need for some level of flexibilityby giving room for little recreation to the patients in the facility in spite of their mentalincapability, these are men who by the way are not blind, at some point in their lives mayhave loved recreational activities like the world series or sports in general to be deprivedof such fun was gross and mean spirited.Significant improvement or cure seem far fetched in a situation where grown menwere been turned into some sort of shrinks in prisoners with little or no value attachedto them, gathering occasionally for so called therapy sessions when they are not allowedto fully express their views, ask questions and get answers with out being short down by her. . Mcmurphy, became their saving grace he was persistent in getting what he wanted, Nurse Ratched new she had a defiant opposition in him but had difficulty understandinghow that happened. The movies approach to Mcmurphy's past faintly tells of his prison sentence to a farm atage 38 as punishment for assaulting an underage girl, was sent to the mental institution for "evaluation". His first "evaluation" by the institutions Dr.potrays the picture of a mentally sound and alert man by the swiftness with which he responded to questions and smart discernment abilities who had no business being there in the first place but heck its a movie so yes! His first meeting with the other patients spoke volumes of his calculated attempt to understudy and "evaluate" their individual level of understanding if any, figuring how to break even in trying to assume control through his stylish manipulation and comic but bold way of pulling them out of the shackles of Ms. Ratched's authoritarian house of rules and regulations into his world of unrestricted freedom and free spirit of TV, Sports, Fishing and partying.Mcmurphy's success at manipulating his way around the patient’s yielded great results that racked in 5 Oscar Awards for the producer Micheal Douglas and director Milo’s Forman, fellow patient and friend "Chief” got confident to speak again after remaining deaf and dumb all through, he also brought back self esteem to the once shrinkinggroup of emotional and mentally imbalanced men. Though he did not make it to the very end he would've been so proud he did what he did for them his students.

One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest is, directed by Milos Forman, one of the best films ever made. I just watched it last night in my English class. All my class mates and I are agree that this movie worth the Oscar Award. Every main actor in this film made a success in acting after taking role in this movie, especially Jack Nicholson and Louise Fletcher. Their performances were unbelievable; I think that nobody else could have played the part more convincing and dramatic as they did.The purpose of this movie is trying to open people’s mind of unfair treatment of the health care system. Since then they, health care department, will learn the lesson and prevent or improve the better health care environment. Also, Cuckoo’s Nest is a comically sharp indictment of the Establishment urge to conform. For anyone who never seen this movie before, try to purchase and watch it on this July 4th 2006.
