Legendary singer Cher shocked the audience at the MTV Video Music Awards by wearing a leather outfit similar to the one she wore in the 1989 video 'If I Could Turn Back Time'. Before presenting the final award of the evening, the 64-year-old told the crowd at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, "Back in the day, I used to get thrown off MTV for wearing things like this that seem so tame now. I'm the oldest chick with the biggest hair in the littlest costume. I have shoes older than most of these nominees", the outfit featured high stockings and a cropped leather jacket. The New York Daily News reports that Cher also wore the risky ensemble to an event in Las Vegas last year.
Cher presented the award for 'Video of the Year' to Lady GaGa for her song 'Bad Romance'. After accepting the award, Gaga said, "I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse", referring to the infamous outfit that she wore to the ceremony, which included a hat and dress made from what appeared to be raw meat.
Cher is currently appearing at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas as part of a three year residency which began in 2008, and it was recently confirmed that she is recording her new album, due for release in 2011.
