'N Sync singer Lance Bass has praised Ellen Degeneres for hosting the Oscars ceremony on Sunday night (25FEB07), declaring her role was a positive move for the acceptance of homosexuals in mainstream culture. Bass came out as gay in July 2006 and admires DeGeneres, who has been open about her sexuality since 'outing' herself in 1997. He tells the New York Daily News, "I'm thrilled that an openly gay person hosted the Oscars. It gives a face to a gay person - to make it more acceptable and okay to be gay." DeGeneres is the first openly gay person to host the Academy Awards.
