Naomi Campbell believes gay culture and fashion ''go hand-in-hand''.

The supermodel claims the fashion industry wouldn't be half as vibrant without the legacy of gay designers like Gianni Versace and Alexander McQueen.

She said: ''The gay community has made an incredibly profound impact on the fashion industry, and without key creatives such as Marc Jacobs, Gianni Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, to name a few, the art form would not be so vibrant.

''Gay culture and fashion go hand-in-hand in that they flourish in the light of making bold and brave statements.''

Naomi and a host of other stars have put their own unique spin on adidas' classic white tennis trainers as part of the Platform 6 debut art exhibition in Bargehouse in central London, with all designs auctioned off in aid of gay equality charity Stonewall.

Asked how many shoes she owns, the leggy superstar confessed: ''I don't know how many, but I do love shoes- especially those that inspire a sense of fun, whether a sexy pair of heels, or trainers with a twist- like my Ave adidas.''

All shoes are on auction at www.P6auction.com until 14th September.

Information on the exhibition can be found on www.platform6london.com as well as www.facebook.com/platform6london and www.twitter.com/platform6ldn.
