Bedingfield Matured After Developing World Visit
British singer Natasha Bedingfield credits her new strength of character to a recent trip to countries in the developing world.
The pop star recently visited an orphanage in Calcutta, India and a refuge for former child prostitutes in Mumbai, and despite the disturbing stories she heard on her travels, she is glad the trip opened her eyes to the suffering that still goes on in the world.
She says, "I know the world is a crap place, and 'what can little old me do about it' and it is easy to get overwhelmed, but I wanted not to harden myself and to see some projects that are making a difference.
"I got to wash the children, feed them, hug them, sing to them.
"They had been initiated by gang rape. They would take ages to tell their story, they were so innocent, and I could imagine myself being that young and how hard it would be."
