Singer Natina Reed has been killed in a car accident in Georgia.

The 32 year old, who rose to fame in the 1990s with R&B group Blaque, died on Friday night (26Oct12) after she was struck by a car.

The driver of the vehicle called emergency services after the crash and Reed was transported to the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where she was later pronounced dead.

The tragedy came just two days before she was due to celebrate her 33rd birthday on Sunday (28Oct12).

Police have launched an investigation into the accident but they have determined that the driver was "not at fault" and there are "no charges pending", according to Tmz.com.

Reed's former Blaque bandmates Brandi Williams and Shamari Fears-DeVoe, have released a joint statement mourning the loss of their friend.

The statement reads, "We are devastated by the loss of our group member, sister and friend Natina Reed... Blaque officially reunited this fall and we were in the process of working on a new album and a reality show... Natina was a mother, sister, accomplished songwriter, artist and friend. We ask for your prayers at this time for Natina's family. She will forever be missed and her global influence eternally felt. We thank God for the experiences we shared."

Reed found fame in the 1990s after befriending TLC star Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes, who signed the group to her Left Eye Productions company. Lopes herself was killed in a car accident in Honduras in 2002.

Blaque's self-titled debut album sold more than 1.5 million copies and the 808 hitmakers also appeared in 2000 teen film Bring It On.

Reed leaves behind a 10-year-old son, Tren Brown, whose father is rapper Kurupt.
