While NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams averaged 7.87 million viewers, NBC's primetime programming averaged 4.56 million (the averaged was ballooned by high ratings for America's Got Talent ; the network didn't place another show in the top 30). ABC World News with Diane Sawyer averaged 7.27 million viewers, but the network's primetime lineup averaged 5.03 million viewers. Only CBS, which continues to lead in total viewers during primetime, had higher numbers for its entertainment shows than its nightly newscast, but the numbers were close.
