The longtime Neil Simon collaborator, whose first wife was The Golden Girls star Bea Arthur, passed away on Saturday (28Mar15).

He won Tonys for his work on Simon's plays Brighton Beach Memoirs and Biloxi Blues in the 1980s, and also staged the playwrights projects Broadway Bound, Rumors, Lost in Yonkers and Jake's Women.

Saks also enjoyed success as a movie director with credits including Cactus Flower, Mame and the film adaptation of Simon's plays Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple and Brighton Beach Memoirs.

He also appeared in the films Nobody's Fool and Deconstructing Harry.
